THE CONTINENT OF OCEANIA
This page is dedicated to Hank R., Dan B., Oreng., Linda R., Yumi S., Rodney O., and Ned B.
Oceania at 4,000,000 square miles is the ocean continent. Containing a estimated 20,000 to 30,000 islands of some of the most lush plant, animal, and marine life on earth. It is a continent of contrasts from the most isolated and desolate islands on earth to the largest islands and everything in between. The first to navigate, chart, the huge expanses of ocean and settling on this continent were the Polynesians some 2000 years ago. Remarkably achieving this using long forgotten techniques to read the waves and clouds long before the discovery of the magnetic compass or sextant. Several centuries ago the Europeans began colonizing the region bringing with them the ideas first of the renaissance and later the concept of industrialization itself. Oceania has come of age developing in certain areas at a rate simular to the rest of the Pacific Rim in other areas maintaining its exotic allure and timeless charm.
This is a diversionary site to get you in the mood for your travel adventure to Oceania. It is about some of the great natural undersea navigators of Oceania. Namely the Cetacea (Whales, Dolphins, and Porpoises) that call the ocean of this waterous continent their home. You will probably find this fascinating.

When many think of the continent "Oceania" they immediately think of tropical islands and cool breezes. Often missing out on the sheer cultural diversity and huge distances of this continent on top of the water. This page will entertain and educate you as you surf the net giving you a greater understanding of this neck of the woods. Highly recommended for ease of use and quality of information.
Got some days coming? How about a real adventure? Easter Island is known as the most isolated inhabited place on earth. (Remember the giant heads of stone placed on a island in the Pacific.) This would have to be a highlight for one's experiences of a lifetime. Apparently the expedition itself is laid back enough for kids. You might want to look into this site for more info.
